Brazilian MMA fans are some of the most intense in the world, with only the Irish, possibly, rivaling them. A fighter facing a popular Brazilian opponent may be met with much of the arena chanting Chants of “u vai morrer.”

“You will die,” is the translation.

UFC welterweight Matt “The Immortal” Brown fights Brazilian hero Demian Maia on Saturday at UFC 198. He knew what might come, and welcomed it.

“If they’re sitting there telling me I’m going to die, that makes me feel good,” said Brown to FOX Sports prior to the event.

Sure enough as he stripped down to his Reebok shorts for the weigh in, 20,000 screaming Brazilian fans began the chant. He appeared to throw them off a but as he pumped his arm to the sound.

Then he gave as good as he got.

As the crowd roared, he walked towards the scale, and refused to face the crowd, as he stepped up backwards. As his weight was successfully announced as 171, Brown doubled down on his response.

UFC 198 fighter weigh-ins streamed on The UnderGround on Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET, live from Arena daBaixada in Curitiba, Brazil, courtesy of the UFC.
