UFC fighter Mike Swick is a pretty good sport.

Not only did he travel to Iraq and give an MMA seminar to troops at Camp Adder, afterward he took on any soldiers who wanted to grapple.

As you might imagine, it didn’t end well for any of the soldiers.

“>

A couple guys got hit with Swick’s triangle, one soldier tapped out via rear-naked choke while another fell victim to a Swick armbar. But win or lose, I can’t imagine a cooler thing for an MMA fan/practitioner stuck in Iraq than to get a chance to actually hone their skills against a UFC fighter.

“After my seminar in Iraq, I get challenged by one of the biggest servicemen I have ever seen. Initially, I was supposed to try and tap him with an Anaconda choke but then changed it up to a bicep crusher. Chipped my back tooth in half since I wasn’t using a mouthguard. Was kinda like my own little civilian purple heart.”

Through the development of his clothing company, Combat Life, he has dedicated himself to supporting the troops. The military, he says, is something that he has been passionate about for most of his life.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be in the military more than anything, but you can’t enlist as a kid. So I got into martial arts, basically because I wanted to improve my skills with the goal of enlisting one day and being some super commando with all my martial arts experience.

One thing led to another, and then I got into the UFC and my career took off, and so I never got to enlist. It was a deep regret that I never got to go serve my country, so I vowed to myself that I would do everything I can to support the troops and do as much as I can with the notoriety that I have.
