Reporters are crucial. They break stories and keep us updated with the latest in the sport we all love. It’d be impossible for us fans to follow martial arts without them.

Sometimes though, reporters are put under verbal fire by some fans…

“Does he even know what he’s talking about?!”, “Bet he has never trained!”, “He’s just an armchair analyst!”

Those are common critics I often hear among martial arts fans. And hey, gotta be fair, some of those critics are justified. I do believe it only applies to a handful of reporters though.

And I think MMA reporter Aaron Tru wouldn’t disagree with me.

See, this well-known among MMA fans, ‘extreme’ reporter has an original gimmick and selling point, to say the least…

He doesn’t merely interviews fighters; he actually has made a speciality out of training with them at 100% to get to acknowledge first-hand how MMA training is rigorous. Sometimes too, he asks the fighter he’s interviewing to beat him up with full force, or to choke him, just for fun.

Yep.

In the video below, Aaron Tru asks the current UFC Heavyweight champion of the world, Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizard Fabricio ‘Vai Cavalo’ Werdum, to kick the s**t out of his leg:

“>

You probably guessed how it ended up…

I mean, look at that kick! (and listen the SNAP sound too!!) Ouch!

The highlight of the video though, is Fabricio Werdum telling to a cringing in pain Tru : “Only 40% my friend!”

What that supposed to make Aaron Tru feel better? Poor dude probably got hit so hard he couldn’t even figuring what was going around him! But hey, this reported asked, and Werdum delivered.

Would you call that type of reporting extreme? Probably. But at least Aaron Tru definitely isn’t fooling you when he says he knows about the brutality of MMA!
