When the sport of mixed martial arts (or no holds barred as it was commonly known) was in its infancy, the Gracie brand of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the grappling style that was reigning supreme. But it was only going to be a matter of time until world class Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers would look to apply their trade and assert the superiority of their grappling style in this new hybrid sport.

Since then the sport of wrestling has become a key component of becoming successful mixed martial artist, with numerous athletes with wrestling bases having gone on to reach the pinnacles of the sport including figures such as Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Dan Henderson, Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez just to name a few.

In this edition of UFC Now analyst and former title contender Kenny Florian and reigning UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping countdown their Top 5 favorite wrestling slams in the history of mixed martial arts.

Some of the obvious examples include the unforgettable slam Rampage Jackson authored against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Ricardo Arona where he lifts him up like a pillow and slammed him unconscious to the dramatic come from behind slam by Matt Hughes against Frank Trigg in his title defense at UFC 52.

For the rest of Michael and Kenny’s picks, check out the video below and if there are any slams that you feel they have missed.
