Tonight a huge story is developing that the UFC is setting up a big PPV on March 5th including a lightweight title fight and women’s bantamweight title fight. Lead writer for Bleacher Report, Jeremy Botter broke the first news of the event on Twitter:

BREAKING: Multiple sources confirm UFC will soon announce UFC 197 for March 5 in Vegas with Dos Anjos/McGregor and Holm/Tate.

I have conflicting reports at this point on whether it will be at MGM or Mandalay. Will update when I can.

Although the UFC has made no statement or announcement of either fight, a lot of things add up to this being a real possibility. UFC 197 was supposed to take place in Brazil, but it was recently canceled and Anderson Silva moved to the London event to fight Michael Bisping.

Also, Conor McGregor did say after his UFC 194 featherweight title fight win that he wanted to move up and fight for the lightweight title. He only fought for less than fifteen seconds so he is likely healthy. Rafael Dos Anjos also had a quick fight in his last title fight and would also be healthy.

Dana White yesterday revealed that Holly Holm would indeed defend her title before re-matching Ronda Rousey. It would make sense to have her fight Miesha Tate who is the clear number one contender. A March fight with Tate would allow her ample time to rematch Rousey at UFC 200 should she win.
