Nate Diaz may not be interested in a fight with “rookie” Khamzat Chimaev, but he thinks long-time rival Conor McGregor should give it a go against the Russian prospect when he makes his eventual return to the UFC in 2022.

A major story this week was Diaz (20-13) making his first public comments about a proposed matchup with the surging welterweight Chimaev (10-0). And that response essentially was, no thanks.

“You’re gonna try and offer me a fight with a rookie. You got four fights in the UFC, don’t even talk my name, Diaz told TMZ Sports Wednesday.

Nate Diaz thinks Khamzat Chimaev should fight Conor McGregor next

Chimaev responded on Thursday by calling Diaz a “fake gangster.” Nonetheless, the UFC and president Dana White — who told the outlet in early November he wanted to make Diaz vs Chimaev — have to be disappointed. Especially, since it’s a favorable matchup for the Chechen and would have established his brand as a UFC superstar in what would be the final fight on Diaz’s contract.

However, Diaz can be a nice guy and he offered the UFC another option for the fast-rising 170-pound talent. The Stockton bad boy took to his Twitter on Friday and posted a quote from White stating that Conor McGregor (22-6) is “chomping at the bit get back” to action, after fracturing his leg in a July loss to Dustin Poirier. Diaz put on his matchmaker hat in the caption to the image.

“Let him fight kamrat that be a great fight to make. He needs a easy new guy to fight anyway. He can taper back in and see if he can even still fight at all. Great idea Nate. Thanks,” he wrote.

Despite not even being tagged in the tweet, the trash talk found its way back to the former two-division champion. To which McGregor responded in a retweet of his own by saying, “No problem, b*tch.”

Diaz and McGregor have a rival that’s over five years old and all started after the American handed the “Notorious” Irishman his first loss on short notice at UFC 196. The duo had a rematch five months later, and McGregor evened the score at 1-1 by unanimous decision. Rarely does a month go by when they don’t bark at each other on Twitter, and that digital banter continued after Diaz’s opening salvo.

“Good job, do what your told, B*TCH,” Diaz added in the comments of McGregor’s post. The 33-year-old retorted by saying, “Two sugars,” and used a picture further down in the thread to take a shot at Diaz, his brother Nick, and their friend, action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme.
