For a brief moment in time, she garnered what any man or woman competing in combat sports would want – comparisons to the once undeniably dominant knockout artist and heavyweight champion of the world.
Prior to Rousey’s stunning knockout loss to former boxing champion and two time Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year Holly Holm, she was on top of the world and viewed by many as an unstoppable force in women’s MMA who stood as good a chance as any at remaining undefeated until she decided to hang up the gloves forever.
Since her loss to Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey has been the subject of a great deal of intense derision and mockery, spanning all corners of the internet.
However, Mike Tyson has lived in that same glass house of worldwide fame and notoriety and knows better than to throw such stones. As a man who was once thought by the world to be undefeatable and then suffered a shocking loss similar to the one suffered by Rousey, Iron Mike had only sympathy and advice to offer.
She has to understand, we’re in the hurt business. I don’t care if you’re the king of the hurt business, we’re in the business where we get hurt. And she’s just gotta be seen, come out of the house. I see she’s been around, show your face. You’re human. She’s just unfortunate that she’s a goliath.
“David is a great king, he’s done great things…He built the civilization! But he’s more famous for beating goliath.
Although it is yet to be determined when Ronda Rousey will return to the cage, it is likely that when she does, she will have the support of one time heavyweight boxing goliath, Mike Tyson.
