The UFC 200 weigh-ins stream on The UnderGround on Friday, 8 July at 6:00 p.m. ET, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, courtesy of the UFC. However, the real weigh ins took place between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. today, giving the fighters longer to rehydrate, and cutting out the misery of drying out all day.
There was drama.
Miesha Tate was the last fighter to weigh in, hidden by towel. Had she not weighed in, the fight would have been canceled. Had she weighed in but missed weight, she would have been stripped of her title, and the fight would have been non title.
There was extreme tension in the room.
But she made it.
Kelvin Gastelum too needed the towel of modesty, but made it.
Johny Hendricks did not, again.
Hendricks has successfully made weight with Mike Dolce, but has struggled and failed without him.
In an interview with Jim Edwards for FloCombat last week, Hendricks was bullish on his new diet coach.
“The weight is no longer an issue; I got LouTrition [Louis Giordano],” Hendricks said. “Me and Dolce, we had a good run, but man, having Lou by my side has been a blessing in disguise.
“I can still eat bad, but it can still be good for you. For example, in the off-season, I can go have Whataburger. Just have the burger! Don’t eat the fries! Get a drink, eat the burger. Would he want me to do that? No. But he knows me, he knows who I am, so he’s going to say, ‘Johny, if you’re craving something, go get it. Just send me a picture of it, and don’t eat the fries.’”
Maybe he ate the fries.
