As the Diaz brothers might say, Don’t be scared Homie. While it would be difficult to prove exactly what was going through the mind of Conor McGregor at the moment Nate Diaz strolled through the doors at the UFC 196 post-fight press conference, you may be inclined to harbor a couple of guesses after viewing the candid GIF image below.
The scene begins when the speaker at the podium seemingly motions to McGregor regarding Diaz’s arrival.
After McGregor turns to look Diaz’s way, the camera captures that awkward moment when McGregor seemingly contemplates saying something to Diaz, but decides against it after Diaz seems to not notice him as he walks by. His facial expression that follows is one of unmistakable defeat as he is forced to swallow his pride and the hard pill of his loss.
McGregor was up for the task— honorable in his defeat, and making no excuses for his loss:
“He kept his composure. He went into almost autopilot mode with the shots. His face was busted up. And I went into panic mode.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow, but we can either run from adversity or we can face our adversity head on and conquer it,” Conor McGregor said of the loss. “And that’s what I plan to do. It wasn’t ideal, I got caught. It is what it is. I’ll face it. I’ll take it on the chin. And I’ll carry on. I’ll learn from it. And that’s it.”
“I will never shy away from a challenge,” Conor McGregor said. “I will never shy away from defeat. This is part of the game. I am happy to come out there, continue and stay in this fight. I had many chances to not do this and sit and wait. But I went in, I took the fight and it didn’t pay off. This is the fight business. It’s another day. I’ll come back.”
