Rumors have circulated recently that a boxing match was being negotiated between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the greatest boxer of his generation, Floyd Mayweather Jr. There was initially speculation as to the source of the rumors, but it turns out it was FMJ himself.

A boxing match with McGregor would be effortless for Mayweather, as would an MMA fight, or for that matter a BJJ, or grappling match for McGregor. McGregor too would make millions, and a loss in boxing to the great Mayweather would do nothing to hurt the Irishman’s reputation.

UFC president Dana White expressed great skepticism, but has said repeatedly, that if Mayweather genuinely wants to do this then “Floyd, call me.”

Mayweather spoke recently with Showtime Boxing’s Jim Gray about what would be the greatest cross combat sport contest since Ali vs. Inoki.

“It’s really not a rumor,” said Mayweather. “The fight may happen. We really don’t know as of right now. But do I think the fight will happen? Absolutely.”

“It has to be a boxing match because most fights that Conor McGregor won inside the Octagon was he was a stand-up guy. So I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a tough fight for me. We don’t really know right now, but hopefully we can make the fight happen.

“He’s no pushover. One thing about Conor McGregor, he’s no push-over. He fell short in his last bout, but a true champion can always bounce back. So that’s a guy that I can’t overlook.

“We haven’t picked a venue. We haven’t talked about money yet. … I’m going to get 100,000,000, of course. Everything I go out, that’s my number. Each time I go out and get inside that squared circle, that’s 100,000,000 or better.”

Make it happen FMJ! Let’s it happen DFW!!!
