The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung is one of the UFC’s most wild and exciting fighters to watch. Having competed professionally since 2007, Jung has tested himself all across the globe, in promotions such as World Extreme Cagefighting, Pancrase, World Victory Road, and DEEP. Taking his nickname The Korean Zombie due to his inhuman ability to withstand powerful strikes while still coming forward, one is never quite sure what they will witness when sitting down to watch one of Jung’s fights.

One such evening in which few in attendance or watching at home could have predicted what The Korean Zombie would pull out of his bag of tricks was March 26, 2011 at UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis.

It was on that evening Jung was tasked with fighting Leonard Garcia, a fighter out of the Greg Jackson/Mike Winklejohn camp known mostly for his big, looping punches and willingness to throw himself into the fire against any opponent you put in front of him. While heavy handed, tough as nails and fearless, Garcia has never exhibited anything more than a rudimentary ground game and mediocre Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

While the seconds ticked away on the second round of a fight scheduled for three rounds, Jung is able to secure back control and lock a triangle on Garcia’s left leg, while softening him up with elbows to the face. As Garcia struggles to free himself from the position, The Korean Zombie sees his opportunity to lock on the rare submission. With just one second left in the round, Garcia taps from the painful hold and Jung is declared the UFC’s first ever winner by twister at 4:59 of the second round.
