At UFC Fight Night 87, Josh Emmett made his UFC debut and won a split decision, but in the process was victim of one of the worst hand injuries in UFC history. A teammate posted this video of the injury in the locker room shortly after the fight:

Emmett seemed unaffected by the injury and was attacking with the hand throughout the fight.

It was not until his post-interview that the injury was noticed.


MMAJunkie ran a live play by play of the event and agreed with the judges scored card giving Emmett the fight 29-28:
Round 1 – Emmett with an early high kick. They exchange jabs as Emmett circles on the outside. Tuck with a big right hand. Both men throwing hard to open. Tuck attacking from the center. Emmett with a big overhand right that scores. Emmett the faster man and staying busy to start. He scores with a right to the body. Another right up top. Tuck is staying in the pocket, but he’s struggling to mount anything right now. Emmett switching stances, and he slips on a high kick. Tuck rushes forward, but Emmett able to work up and get back to his feet, landing a big left once he’s set. Emmett high kick blocked. He’s got a ton of confidence right now. Tuck scores with a kick to the legs. Emmett comes back with a right to the body. Emmett misses a takedown to close, but MMAjunkie gives him the first, 10-9.
Round 2 – Tuck out quickly to the center. Emmett still moving well on the outside. Tuck with a leaping knee and a right hand. Emmett circles out to escape. Tuck starting to let his hands go a bit. Emmett answers with a big right to the body. Tuck with a right up top. They exchange in the pocket, and Emmett scores with a left. Tuck thinks about a takedown, but it’s not there. Another right hand for Emmett. He kicks the legs. He looks very relaxed. Tuck with a front kick to the face. Emmett showing great head movement as he looks to trade. He continues to work the legs, as well. Right hand lands for Emmett. Tuck answering with kicks to the legs, but Emmett seems the busier man. Emmett works in the right hand yet again. It’s there over and over. Emmett poised until the end. MMAjunkie gives him the round, 10-9.
Round 3 – Emmett with two punches to the body and a right up top. He’s got plenty of energy for coming in on short notice, and he looks very relaxed. He’s picking his angles. Tuck needs to make something happen. He does start to press, but Emmett nails him with a few counter punches. His accuracy is fantastic. Uppercut from Emmett, followed by a right over the top. Tuck with a spinning kick, and the crowd lets him have it. Tuck trying to press, but Emmett’s speed and mobility are causing him issues. Tuck does land, and Emmett’s nose is busted up. Emmett’s left hand might be broken. He’s in survival mode now. Tuck rushing with kicks and knees to the body. Time winding down. Emmett just trying to survive, and he does. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Tuck, 10-9, but awards Emmett the fight, 29-28.
