#ANDNEW UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is taking a charming media tour following her star turn. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ has been on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” “Larry King Now,” and AXS TV’s “Inside MMA,” among others.
“You know what I think that as far as Ronda with the rematch, I feel like for her … do what you want to do. If you’re passionate about it and want to get back and avenge that loss, then great. And if you want to focus on other things, great. I’m just supportive of any fighter kind of doing what they’re passionate about. So whatever she wants to do.”
Holm also discussed Rousey’s refusal to touch gloves before the fight.
“When it comes to a fight, there’s so many emotion that go it there. If you’ve never been in there, you just don’t understand it. Yes, I think she had kind of a little bit of an attitude here or there,” said Holm, accurately. “But she’s just there for a fight. A lot of emotion. Just getting into the fight and when it comes to the end of the day, she’s just a competitor. I don’t have any hard feelings towards her. I hope she’s doing well.”
Holm was asked what it felt like to win the title.
“Naturally, since I wear my emotions on my sleeve, I cried,” said Holm. “It’s just that moment of ‘we did it.’ They said ‘Well you did it.’ And I’m like ‘No, we did it. I wouldn’t be able to do it without you guys.’ There’s a bond there that I’m so thankful for. And I never want to take that for granted.”
How can you not admire Holly Holm?
“I hope that it does inspire other female fighters to get in there, and believe in themselves,” said Holm. “And take a change. Not only that, I hope it inspire anybody to get in there and take a chance, in whatever it is that they want to do. I know you have to be vulnerable, just for a minute. Just give yourself the opportunity to try … Don’t count yourself out.”
Seriously, how can you not admire Holly Holm?
Rousey has vowed that she’ll be back, perhaps at UFC 200 in April of 2016. If Holm does not fight Rousey in an immediate rematch, is Miesha Tate the best choice? That would mean either Holm vs. Rousey II or Tate vs. Rousey III (with the title roles reversed) next. And the winner of that one gets CrisCyborg.
