UFC president Dana White has made it clear that Ronda Rousey gets the first shot at new women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate. However, Tate says nothing has been confirmed, and Holm has now formally and publicly asked for a rematch.
“I don’t know if [the Rousey fight] is even confirmed yet,” said Tate during a recent appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show, as transcribed by David St. Martin for MMA Fighting. “I know everyone is so excited and everyone wants to know what’s next, but for me in this moment, I can’t get ahead of myself. As far as the next matchup, I still have to talk to my management and the UFC and nothing has been confirmed. I don’t really know what’s next. There are a lot of tough girls in this division and I don’t know when I’d be fighting next or anything.”
While Tate has uncertainty, Holm does know exactly who she wants to fight next.
“I’m doing fine. I’m healthy, I’m good. I could train tomorrow,” said Holm in an exclusive interview with BJPenn.com. “As far as my heart, I’m heartbroken. It’s a sour ending to UFC 196 but I’m ready to get back.
“I want a rematch. Miesha’s been around a long time. She’s a tough champion so I’m sure she’ll want to take the fight so let’s do it.”
“I haven’t watched it, but I’ve replayed [the fight] in my head 1000 times. Not just the last round but the second round, as well. It’s obviously something I need to work on. There’s a lot of things I wasn’t doing right, things that I know better, already.
“I gave you a shot, give me a shot. I’m not going to let you choke me out again.”
A recent Instagram from Diego Sanchez reveals that Holm is already back in the gym, working on her choke defense.
