The main event of UFC Fight Night 87 featured a main event heavyweight fight between Alistair Overeem and former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski.
The fight was a hometown fight for Overeem who hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands only an hour away from where the event took place, Rotterdam.
Alistair Overeem waited six-and-a-half years to make his MMA return to the Netherlands. And he needed just over six minutes to become a winner in his homeland.
Overeem used a ferocious finishing flurry to defeat Jackson’s MMA teammate Andrei Arlovski in the main event of UFC Fight Night 87 in the UFC’s debut in Rotterdam on Sunday. He won the heavyweight bout via TKO at 1:12 of the second round.
While Arlovski, the former UFC heavyweight champion, had his moments in the opening round, particularly in a fast start, Overeem got his bearings and turned the fight in his favor.

Round 1 – Arlovski moving his hands rapidly as they meet in the center. Overeem circling right on the outside. Arlovski starts to flurry, but Overeem covers up against the cage and eventually slips away. Overeem pushes inside as Arlovski looks to strike, and they work from the clinch. Overeem slips in a knee, but it’s a stall in the clinch. Referee Marc Goddard calls for action, and thye eventually separate. Arlovski pushing the pace. He just misses a big right hand. Overeem throws a jab and then briefly holds the clinch, just missing with a knee. Arlovski throwing the quicker shots right now. Overeem does score with a big kick to the body. Overeem staying at range and kicks the knees. They clinch, and Overeem scores a trip. He dives down into the guard and fires a few punches. Arlovski with a closed guard underneath. Overeem with a big right hand. Arlovski slips in the legs for an upkick. Overeem stands and finishes there. He throws a left that lands flush, and Arlovski is down. Overeem seizes the moment and jumps on top with punches. He rattles off strikes until the fight is waved off.
