In the main event of UFC 195 Carlos Condit and Robbie battled for five rounds in an absolute war. It was one of the best UFC welterweight title fights ever.

Lawler was coming into the fight off his first title defense, another absolute war with Rory MacDonald which he won in the fifth round. Condit proved in this fight he belonged to be there and for five rounds looked as though he might have done enough to win. Condit outlanded the champion the entire fight with a much higher volume of punches, but it was Lawler who landed the harder punches more often.

When it was all said and done, two of the three judges scored the fight for Lawler and he retained his UFC welterweight title.

Just two days into 2016, Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit delivered a thrilling, Fight of the Year candidate of a battle at UFC 195. After 25 minutes of some of the most intense action you’ll ever see, Lawler did just enough to earn two out of three 48-47 scorecards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, taking the split decision and keeping his championship.

Judges Derek Cleary and Chris Lee gave Lawler rounds two, three, and five. Judge Tony Weeks gave Condit rounds one, three, and four.

About Robbie Lawler

Robbie Lawler has experienced the highs and lows of his profession more than most – the exhilarating victories, the crushing defeats and everything in between.

But nothing in his MMA career matched the night Lawler’s hand was raised in triumph and he became the UFC welterweight champion after 13 years in the sport.

Lawler’s split decision win over Johny Hendricks, who had beaten him at UFC 171 to win the title vacated by Georges St-Pierre, finally took Lawler to the top in a career that has been occasionally bumpy.
