Despite both being 36-years-old as they entered the Octagon at UFC 261, Chris Weidman and Uriah Hall were heading in very different directions in their careers. Weidman, the former middleweight champion was looking to win back-to-back fights for the first time since 2015. Fellow New Yorker Hall had designs on winning a fourth straight fight for the first time since starting his career unbeaten after four bouts. Oddly enough, “All American” ended that winning streak at Ring of Combat 31 in 2010. He didn’t end any streaks tonight, but Weidman’s career could be over after tonight.

Seconds into the bout, Weidman threw a low kick that was perfectly checked by Hall, and it snapped the Long Island native’s leg instantly. After throwing the kick, he pulled it back to stand on. The limb crumpled under his weight and the fight was immediately stopped. A horrific end to the fight, and the sort of injury at 36-years-old that could seriously put Weidman’s career in danger. It’s another loss, after just getting back into the win column in August, following defeats in five of his last six.

On the other side of the equation, Hall wins a fourth straight for the first time since starting his career 4-0. Despite the sad end to the bout, “Primetime” did his job correctly and scored a second straight win over a future hall-of-famer. After defeating Anderson Silva in October, in the Brazilian’s farewell fight. The ninth-ranked Hall is deserving of a top-five middleweight after tonight.
