Conor McGregor vs. Marcus Brimage may go down as one of the most influential fights in McGregor’s blossoming MMA career. It was the first time that fans got to see him in the UFC, and you’d be hard pressed to find more of an impressive first showing.

McGregor and Brimage squared off in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 6th, 2013.

At the time, McGregor was just a hot prospect with an abundant Irish fan-base that he accumulated in British-based mixed martial arts organization, Cage Warriors, where he held both the featherweight and lightweight titles. Brimage was 6-1 heading into the fight and was certainly not expected to be the walk-in-the-park he proved to be for McGregor.

When considering McGregor’s accolades, he came into his first UFC fight with lofty expectations, but managed to exceed them after effortlessly dispatching of Brimage in a brisk 67 seconds.

Brimage came out of the gate swinging and even landed a few solid strikes, but McGregor easily shrugged them off— making his superior striking evident 40 seconds into the bout when he caught Brimage with an uppercut. McGregor proceeded to tee-off on the wobbled Brimage— landing several unanswered blows before the fight was inevitably stopped just over a minute into the bout.

This would be the first of seven straight victories that McGregor has recorded in the UFC— six coming by way of knockout. McGregor stopped Jose Aldo in an astonishing thirteen seconds to become the undisputed UFC Featherweight Champion at UFC 194 in December. He also lobbied to become the first ever multiple weight class champion in UFC history and is now slated to face Nate Diaz on March 5th, after Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of their proposed Lightweight Title fight with a foot injury.

Rumors persist that McGregor is also going to be making an appearance at UFC 200, but so far, nothing official has been announced.
