Conor McGregor first burst onto the UFC scene in early 2014 after amassing a 13-2 record in regional promotions. McGregor fought Marcus Brimage at the UFC on Fuel TV event in Sweden, winning by TKO in the first round.
In his next fight, McGregor would be tested by Hawaiian Max Holloway, but walked away with a decision win. Next, McGregor defeated Diego Brandao by TKO in the first round.
Dustin Poirier was supposed to be his first real test. Poirier was a veteran of the UFC at the point, 8-2 inside the Octagon, and riding a three fight win streak. McGregor won the fight by first round TKO and it solidified him as one of the division’s top fighters.
Up next for McGregor was another test in the 10-3 Dennis Siver, another fight that McGregor won by TKO, although it did take him a second round to do so this time.
McGregor had now established him as a top contender and was given a title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 189. Three weeks prior to the event, Aldo pulled out of the fight due to injury and McGregor went on to fight and defeat former title contender Chad Mendes to earn the UFC interim featherweight championship.
McGregor will finally fight Jose Aldo at UFC 194 on December 12th and put a rest to any questions of his greatness should he pull out a win.
