Beloved UFC commentator, comedian, and podcaster, Joe Rogan, has had a lot of success in different endeavors throughout his life. From his competitive martial arts background to his portrayal of ‘Joe Garrelli’ on NBC’s NewsRadio, Joe Rogan is certainly a varied and well-rounded dude with a lot of different interests.

When he’s not commentating UFC events or performing stand-up comedy, you can find him breaking down the universe on his podcast or perhaps even engaging in his latest pursuit of bowhunting. (He likes Elk meat!)

There’s a lot more to Joe Rogan than meets the eye, and here are 5 things about the UFC color commentator that you may not have known.

5) He almost fought a guy while hosting Fear Factor

Too many people out there, NBC’s Fear Factor is where they first got to know Joe Rogan. During his time as a host, he was seen cheering on countless unfortunate contestants to eat disgusting concoctions of maggots, bull testicles, etc.

“>

But there was also a time when he nearly fought a dude who got a little too aggressive and it didn’t go so well for the guy, as we can see in this video.

4) He thinks the Kimbo Slice/Ken Shamrock fight looked fake

Compared to many other celebrities in the ‘limelight’, Joe Rogan is always one to speak his mind, and you’ve got to respect him for that.

“>

On an episode of his uber-popular podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ he called shenanigans on an MMA fight in Bellator between legend Ken Shamrock and the late Kimbo Slice that Rogan felt looked suspect.

3) He almost fought Wesley Snipes

Long before Zuffa and now WME ran the UFC, martial artist and film star Wesley Snipes was in need of some quick cash and thought a fight in the UFC against someone like Joe Rogan would be easy money.

“>

After his team probably found out about Joe Rogan’s extensive martial arts background, they likely thought otherwise, though, and intelligently backed out.

2) He refuses to interview knocked-out fighters

As per his UFC commentating duties, it is Rogan’s job to interview fighters following the bout. Recently, though, Joe decided that he no longer wants to interview fighters after they’ve been knocked out as they are probably concussed and likely in no condition to be speaking publicly.

“>

Recently at UFC 214, though, he broke his own rule when he still decided to interview Daniel Cormier, which he later expressed remorse for.

1) He’s a legitimate martial artist

Joe Rogan doesn’t just talk the talk when it comes to martial arts, he’s walked the walk too. He first got his start in the martial arts with Taekwondo, where he would become a US Open tournament champion. Rogan also competed in kickboxing where he went 2-1.

“>

He is far from a one-trick pony, however, and though many people know him for his powerful kicks, he’s also an accomplished grappler too, holding black belts in BJJ both in the Gi under Jean Jaques Machado as well as in No-Gi, under Eddie Bravo.
