Current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor may no longer be doing touch butt these days. In case you don’t know what that’s a reference to, it’s when Nate Diaz made fun of the Irishman working out with movement coach Ido Portal.

There have been numerous videos of the coach working Conor McGregor, Gunnar Nelson, and other Straight Blast Gym fighters in the park, at the beach, poolside and other various Zen-like locations.

You could see them doing various movement drills derided from Capoeira, gymnastics, dance and other forms of movement.

Unfortunately, none of those movements helped him in his fight against Diaz at UFC 196. After a few one twos from Diaz, McGregor dived down for a takedown which eventually led to his demise. He was submitted fairly easily. After all of his boasting, it wasn’t a good look for the fighter.

But McGregor has been seen doing a particular exercise before his encounter with the movement coach. He’s been seen doing an exercise called a muscle-up. This exercise can be seen done by gymnasts. Done on a chin-up bar or gymnastic rings, the individual would perform a pull-up but explosively move above the bar or rings and hold themselves up. It’s a calisthenic exercise that works major grouped muscles in the arms, shoulders and back. It’s an excellent exercise to gain strong functional strength in the areas.

During his rise to meteoric popularity, Ireland began to really support the fighter. The Fighting Irish they’re called sometimes.

In this video, an elderly Irishman who has seen McGregor doing muscle ups and challenged the fighter to being able to do them when he’s his age…64-years-old. You can see the Irishman do full-on muscle ups effortlessly.

McGregor saw the video himself and humbly thanked the fan and was astonished by the strength he possessed at his age. In return, he did some of his own muscle ups.
