Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor are being put through the media wringer just a day before they fight in the co-main event of UFC 196. The pair appear to be unlikely candidates to speak about financial matters with CNBC reporter Jane Wells, but the result was compelling, and in its way, informative.
McGregor was asked how much he was making for this fight.
“I’m going to breeze past the $10 million mark,” he told Wells.
The ‘Notorious’ was asked what his net worth is.
“There’s people buried in the desert for less than that,” he replied. “You must think I trust you with these kind of things. How much are you worth?”
Wells replied that she made less than the fighter. She also asked Diaz what he made.
“A lot more than anybody else,” Diaz replied.
McGregor took that as his cue.
“He can thank me for that one,” said the Irishman. “I’ve made more millionaires in this game than anybody else.”
So does Diaz owe McGregor?
“I don’t owe him s***,” explained Nate.
McGregor then suggested Diaz owes him for anything over the $40,000 he made his last fight.
“I tip with that money,” crowed McGregor.
Wells reported afterwards that her favorite part was McGregor asking for a pic. She reports that he didn’t realize she was twice his age.
And she said the lowlight was Daiz walking out of the interview, a first in her 30 years in the business (the money business, not the fight business).
