Houston’s own Derrick Lewis plans to turn out Ciryl Gane’s lights at UFC 265 in Texas.
In a recent interview for ESPN, the interim title challenger claimed that he needs to land only one punch in five rounds to end his main event bout with France’s Gane.
Derrick Lewis talks his one-punch power as an equalizer at UFC 265
“Twenty-five minutes … all I have to do is just touch him one time,” Lewis said of his focus entering Saturday’s fight. “I don’t care how much more skills he has than me, it doesn’t matter whenever it’s two big guys going in there swinging leather.”
Lewis enters his booking with Gane following back-to-back knockouts and is known for hard, overhand rights few opponents can stand to take. At age 36, he’s 25-7 with 20 knockouts.
Gane is 9-0 and has three knockouts and three submissions. At 6-5, 243, he’s an imposing figure but the Frenchman is also incredibly agile and elusive. He’s just three years into his UFC career with a chance to claim a title. But he’ll have to do it in Houston, Texas, which Lewis considers his home after moving from Louisiana as a teenager.

UFC 265 takes place on August 7, inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The preliminary portion of the card will begin at 6 pm ET on ESPN and streaming service ESPN+. The main card follows at 10 pm ET, exclusively on ESPN+ with a pay-per-view cost of US $69.99.
