As part of the UFC 198 main PPV card, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino made her long awaited UFC debut in a 140 lb. catchweight bout vs. Leslie Smith.

Justino (15-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) fired away from the opening bell. It took very little time for the Invicta FC featherweight champion to bring the fight to an end as her powerful shots had Smith (8-7-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) reeling.

After dropping Smith with a punch, Cyborg followed her to the ground and fired away with punches until the fight was halted at the 1:21 mark of Round 1.

Official Result: Cris Cyborg defeated Leslie Smith by TKO (Strikes, Round 1, 1:21)

About Cris Cyborg

Thoughts on opponent, Leslie Smith? Leslie is a tough opponent from a very good school. She has trained hard and this will be the biggest platform of her career so far. I look forward to going into the Octagon for the first time in my hometown and putting on a performance of a lifetime for my native country of Brazil.

TRAINING: Morning is Muay Thai/Boxing for two hours, evening is Wrestling/BJJ for two hours. During the afternoon, I do a strength and conditioning workout, rest and recover.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training over a decade ago. I was always an athlete, and once I discovered that unlike handball, MMA
doesn’t issue red cards, I knew I had found my true sport.

About Leslie Smith

Thoughts on opponent, Cris Cyborg? I have a lot of respect for Cris and I am excited to be the first woman to welcome her to the UFC’s Octagon. My respect for her will fuel my desire to inflict as much damage to her person as possible because that’s how it works.

TRAINING: Most days I’m training at El Niño morning and night, and a couple of times a week I head over to Omni Movement in Richmond to get strength and conditioning in. I don’t have a lot of time to cook or sit down for meals so I get food from Out Of The Cave, a food truck that services the Bay Area with food that is both tasty and healthy. I leave my house around 9am and make it home around 10 or 11 most nights because of my drive. Most fighters have to do a lot of driving to get to their gyms. I’m actually lucky to be able to drive just one hour to one gym and get all my MMA training in under the same roof; many people have to go to two or three different gyms to get the caliber training I have access to. I have friends with mats and I take naps at their house or sleep at some of SF’s lovely parks on the nice days. I do a lot of sparring, drilling, pad work, grappling, specific training, wall work and jumping rope.
