Earlier today on Good Morning America, the UFC announced that the rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones will headline UFC 200 this July in Las Vegas. Cormier is the current light heavyweight champion and Jones the interim champion, which he gained his past weekend with a win over Ovince Saint Preux.

Cormier however is only the champion because Jones was stripped of his title after some legal issues. Jones never lost the title in the cage and actually beat Cormier the first time they fought.

Shortly after appearing on Good Morning America, Jones and Cormier appeared at a press conference promoting UFC 200 which the UFC held at Madison Square Garden. As is normal for press events, the two fighters squared off on stage. There is no love lost between the two and the moment seemed tense.

About Jon Jones

Title Shot After his UFC 126 win, while still inside the Octagon, Jones was offered the chance to step in for injured teammate Rashad Evans to face light heavyweight champ Shogun Rua on six weeks’ notice. Jones accepted and went on to dominate Rua as well as his subsequent opponents: Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort.

King Among Kings Just 23 years old when he defeated Shogun, Jones became the UFC’s youngest-ever world champion. Jones has successfully defended his light heavyweight title in a division-record eight consecutive fights. He’s also finished nine opponents by either knockout or submission, passing Chuck Liddell for most finishes in light heavyweight history.

About Daniel Cormier

It took him two tries, but Daniel Cormier can finally call himself the UFC’s light heavyweight champion – a title he earned through perseverance, hard work and a refusal to accept no for an answer.

When Jon Jones was suspended indefinitely and stripped of his belt in April 2015, Cormier begged UFC president Dana White for a chance to fight for the title again, despite having lost to Jones by unanimous decision in January 2015.

Cormier got a second opportunity and capitalized, using a third-round rear naked choke on Anthony Rumble Johnson at UFC 187 to claim the vacant title.
