UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is known for his remarkable conditioning, albeit one that media duties may have interfered with his last fight. And his older sister Erin is near equally chiseled, as she is a former Ms. Fitness competitor, who last competed in 2013.

In an interview with Ireland’s Sunday World, she said the siblings had bonded over their stringent diets and training regimens.

I was totally naive going into the bodybuilding scene,” she said to Denis Smith. “There is a huge amount of sacrifice.

It was only when I began to compete that I turned to my mam one day and said: ‘Now I truly understand how hard Conor works.’”

Whenever I was low Conor was on the other end of the phone. I remember him saying: ‘No-one realizes what it’s like until they’ve done it themselves.’ We forged this mutual respect that I suppose we never had before.

Erin also discussed why she no longer competes.

You are critiqued on stage and that can be difficult,” she said. “After months of training, someone is telling you that your legs aren’t big enough, your arms aren’t big enough, that you’re not good enough.

Comments like that definitely affected me and how I looked at my body… I was always very body conscious and I was way too critical of myself. I’ve probably done a lot of damage to myself and to my self-esteem. You think that having the perfect body is going to make you happy, that it will help you find love, that it will make a better you.

For the 12 weeks running up to the competition it completely took over my life. I thoroughly applaud everyone who takes part, but that’s when I kind of thought, is it worth it?

In the end I said to myself I am just going to do what makes me happy and not what it takes to win a trophy.

Here McGregor is interviewed after winning a competition in 2013.

Erin, a hairdresser, is also the force behind Conor’s man-bun.

Everyone loves Conor’s hair and so many men want it, it’s so funny,” she said. “It’s great to be able to express my creativity through him.

He’s very stylish he always has been, it runs in our family.
