Conor McGregor REALLY wants to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.

MMA fighters calling out boxers (and vice versa) has been a long tradition in combat sports, and fans love the harsh verbal battles that usually ensues. Conor McGregor had a bit of a beef going with pound-for-pound boxing king Floyd Mayweather last year.

In fact, the Irishman stated that It would take (me) less than 30 seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.

Since then, both fighters have been lashing out verbally at each other, the most recent instance of their altercation being a controversial back-and-forth argument about racism.

Well, McGregor is back at taking jabs at Mayweather again; check out what he had to say about the boxer in an interview for BT Sport:

When asked about the possibility of taking on Mayweather in a boxing match, here’s what the UFC star had to say: I’m open to discussion. Come at me. But I hold the key. It is me who holds the key to the fight game. I am open-minded. I am open to discussion. I love competition. I love fighting. It would be nice to make that fight if the fans were interested and wanted to see it. Obviously, they would.

That is a pretty big statement, and it adds even more weight to McGregor’s repeated claim that he’s down to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Now, most debates about MMA fighters and boxers going at it under MMA rules is kind of pointless, if you ask me. Boxers are phenomenal at what they do, no doubt, but they are, by definition, not MMA fighters and thus would stand next to chance in the UFC Octagon.

A BOXING match between an MMA fighter and a boxer though? Now things are getting interesting.

Obviously the boxer would have a big advantage, but some MMA fighters excel at striking and possess the kind of will that could overcome being at disadvantage in a boxing ring. It is the case for a special fighter like Conor McGregor. Besides, can you imagine the kind of money a fight between the UFC star and one of boxing’s greatest fighters ever would likely generate? That’d be insane. And as McGregor stated: I’m all about them numbers.

A fight between the Irishman and Mayweather is unlikely to happen though, let’s not kid ourselves here. But McGregor’s attitude is very interesting in that it highlights the kind of mentality every MMA fighter should strive to possess in order to be able to make big waves in the fight game.

So, what do you say? If Conor McGregor ever steps in the ring for a boxing bout against Mayweather, how do you think that would go?
