In a move to get back to a “Notorious”-classic version of himself, Conor McGregor channeled a scene from the 1970s gang movie “The Warriors” in calling UFC 264 opponent Dustin Poirier a “pea-head.”

Conor McGregor goes full ‘The Warriors’ in latest Poirier trash talk

In an audio post on Twitter late Monday night, the former two-division champion continued to ramp up the trash talk between the two, by calling his foe on Saturday night a “silly hillbilly,” and that he was “coming for” the “pea-head” former interim lightweight champion.

The audio channels a scene from cult-classic 1979 gangland drama “The Warriors.” Where in the closing moments of the film, the story’s villain, Luther antagonizes the Brooklyn-based gang, and the film’s protagonists, The Warriors “to come out and play.” To which they oblige, and stand victorious at the end of the picture. The Irishman likely hopes to have a different fate than the movie’s badguy.

The lead-up to the pairs trilogy fight has been subdued, compared to the heat before their UFC 178 booking, and the open love and respect in January before the rematch at UFC 257. However, McGregor, 32, opened the trash talk salvos last week by tweeting that the first man to shoot for a takedown in the fight would be a “dusty b*tch.” A comment Poirier responded to in an ESPN interview by claiming his opponent “reeks of insecurity.” It’s fair to say the hate discourse between the two has picked up speed over the last week.

The pair headline UFC 264, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 10. The prelims begins at 6:15 pm ET on UFC Fight Pass, while the main card pay-per-view kicks off at 10 pm ET, exclusively on streaming service ESPN+.
