Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman had an apology for the first guest on his new podcast, “Won’t Back Down.”
Weidman, who is recovering from a gruesome leg injury sustained April 24 at UFC 261, welcomed Anderson Silva in the show’s debut on Friday.

Silva, also a former UFC middleweight champion, suffered the same injury at UFC 168 in December 2013. And his opponent in that fight was none other than Weidman.
Weidman, 37, broke both the tibia and fibula in his right leg in the opening seconds of a bout against Uriah Hall in Jacksonville, Florida. He underwent surgery and a titanium rod was inserted in the leg.
Both fighters had their legs snapped when their opponents checked their kicks, though Weidman says he didn’t understand the extent of the pain and damage suffered until it happened to him.
I’ve been wanting to apologize to @spideranderson for quite some time. I’m so thankful I got to finally do that.

“I didn’t know your leg broke as soon as it happened,” Weidman said. “I thought you were just in pain. I circled around and I remembered hearing the screaming like someone was being murdered.”
He continued: “I feel terrible about it now because now I understand all the pain you went through, all the trials and tribulations you went through, and it just makes me empathize with you so much more.”
Silva, 46, said there were no hard feelings.
“In the moment when I broke my leg, I know you didn’t realize,” Silva said. “You know I feel pain, but not broke my leg. I understand, but don’t say sorry.”
