In this video, former UFC Featherweight Champion and current UFC Lightweight champion the Notorious Conor McGreogr shares one of his special training methods.

It was shot during the taping of The Ultimate Fighter – a UFC reality show- on which McGregor coached a European team. Initially, he sparked some controversy when he told his fighters to forget about their team, that they were only here for themselves, that he was only there for himself.

However, as this video demonstrates, that sentiment doesn’t preclude McGregor passing on some of his precious knowledge to the hungry up and comers.

McGregor directs his team to put on their MMA gloves, put in their mouth-guards, and remove their shirts in order to replicate the vestige of an actual UFC contest.

Its good for the mind, this one, he says. Cause it’s what you’re going to experience in there.

Then the Notorious One pairs up the fighters and has them drill gentle striking, trading combinations. He wants them to be able to find shots on the body. Pads are good for practicing maximum power, but its important to repeat striking at the shape of an actual human frame, so you can find the exact targets you want.

McGregor sys that this method improves flow and accuracy and that training systems like this upgrade your software without damaging your hardware.

Conor McGregor is widely known in the MMA world for his movement-based training. He focuses on control of the human body rather than full tilt fighting common in other fight camps.

This method is a window into that mindset, and the fighters he’s teaching respond to it very well.
