The greatest fighter in UFC history failed a PED test for his fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183. During a hearing before the Nevada Athletic Commission, Anderson Silva attributed the failure to a sexual performance supplement taken in Thailand.
During a media event ahead of his fight with Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 84 on Feb. 27 in London, England on UFC Fight Pass, Silva addressed his uncompelling explanation to the NAC.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t come off that way, but I always told the truth,” said Silva to Dave Doyle for MMAFighting.com. “I never used any sort of PED of any sort and I’m excited to get back in there a fight, and who knows, perhaps fight for a title.”
“I don’t want to get too much into that. But at the end of the day, I want everyone to know that I am not a liar.”
Bisping has blasted Silva repeatedly for use of PEDs, asking most recently if he can get an erection. The exchange began innocuously.
“There he is,” said Bisping. “See you in London my friend.”
Silva too was polite.
“See you buddy,” he replied. “Good luck to you, say hi to your family for me.”
That could have been the end of it, but it would not put asses in seats.
“No viagra,” said Bisping.
Silva bit.
“No, no, just my fist to your face,” he said.
And then it was on.
“No, my shin to your chin,” said Bisping. “You are too old, too old, look at your beard. You are old and slow.”
Silva was not slow to reply.
“Yes I’m old but I’m more smart,” he shot back. “I was champion for a long time remember, remember?”
The the pair awkwardly hugged. That was not however the end of trash talk.
“I understand your frustration for never going for a belt, but this is your chance,” Silva taunted Bisping. “You need to do it do it for your people, this is your chance.”
Bisping responded bitterly.
“You need to prove you can do it, not on steroids and that it’s all not lies,” said ‘The Count’. “You spent your whole career on steroids… Does it [viagra] work, does it get it erect?”
Then Silva’s manager Ed Soares separated the pair. Bisping later continued the taunting.
Listen, Anderson is a great fighter,” Bisping said. “He’s achieved many, many things. But the fact of the matter is, he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in his last fight. Apparently, that’s the first time he’s been tested. That’s what he said. His words, not mine. A cynic would lead me to believe that he was using his whole career. Shame on him. How he calls himself a martial artist and takes performance enhancing drugs is beyond me, it really is.
The Spider shrugged off The Count’s claims.
“C’mon people, I’ve been in this sport a long time and people have said a lot of things,” said Silva. “But once the Octagon door closes, that always changes.”
