At only nineteen years of age, Sage Northcutt is already a prospect in the UFC’s lightweight division. Discovered on the premier episode of Dana White’s YouTube series ‘Lookin for a Fight’, Northcutt debuted in the Octagon at UFC 192. Northcutt was matched about with Franciso Trevino and won the fight in only fifty-seven seconds. That was October 3rd, 2015.

A short nine-weeks later, Northcutt would fight his second UFC bout against Cody Pfister. Although Pfister was able to put Northcutt on his back early and into a little bit of trouble in the first round, Northcutt came out strong in the second. Northcutt won by guillotine submission forty-one seconds into the second round.

Again fighting with a quick turn around, Northcutt was scheduled to fight at UFC on FOX, January 30th. When his opponent dropped out last minute, Bryan Barberena stepped in and the two fought as welterweight. Barberena mostly dominated the fight, winning by arm triangle choke in the second round. It was Northcutt’s first loss in the Octagon and first professional lose ever.

More About Sage Northcutt

TRAINING: I usually get up and go to the gym and grapple or wrestle for one of the morning classes. Later in the afternoon, I go to another gym and train with weights. At night, I go back and grapple more.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training at age four and competing at age five in karate/traditional martial arts. The sport karate circuits I competed in had point fighting and continuous fighting divisions, even for competitors as young as five years old. The reason I started training was because my older sister, Colbey Northcutt, who is also a black belt and multiple-time world sport karate and kickboxing champion, was competing and having fun, and I wanted to do the same. She was also Legacy’s amateur bantamweight champion.

What ranks and titles have you held? Third degree black belt in Taekwondo, third degree black belt in Kajukenbo, and a three-stripe purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu.

Do you have any heroes? Jesus Christ
