The MMA.tv Before + After Series examines those famous fights in which a fighter entered the arena looking, well, normal, and is transformed temporarily into something little kids worry is hiding under their bed.
UFC 155: dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2 took place on December 29, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event was an extraordinary display of The Grind, as Cain Velasquez figuratively and literally ground Junior dos Santos down, although never out.
The co-main event – Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller – was the unofficial UFC fight of year. Tom Gerbasi described it for UFC.com.
By the time it was over, the octagon mat looked like a crime scene, but instead of facing trouble for what he’d done, Jim Miller had his hand raised in victory.
Fighting for the first time since his disappointing May loss to Nate Diaz, Miller came out with both guns blazing and savaged Joe Lauzon early, then fended off late comeback attempts to earn the UFC 155 victory in the night’s co-main event.
Miller looked hellbent on finishing in the first round, using a vicious dirty boxing approach to slash Lauzon open with elbows and uppercuts. When the opening five minutes were over, Lauzon was already a bloodied mess and needed to be looked at by the cageside doctor.
Several days after the fight was over, Lauzon received a gift from UFC president Dana White – the entire canvas from UFC 155, on which Lauzon spilled his own blood.

Lauzon won a $50,000 performance bonus at UFC 155, to add to his already stellar collection. He is now the performance-bonus leader in UFC history, with six Fight of the Night awards, six Submission of the Night awards, and rounds it out with one Knockout of the Night.
Number 2 is Anderson Silva, The UFC G.O.A.T.
