Could you snap a baseball bat in half with your shin? Ouch! Sounds painful, right?
Well this is just another normal day for Kickboxer ‘Mel’ Menor who is a former Muay Thai World Champion who demonstrates just how powerful the human mind can be … and the shin.

Helping out on the MMA competition “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs Team Tate” the 41 year old demonstrates to the hopefuls just how powerful the mind can be. In conditioning pain, by breaking a wooden baseball bat in half with just his shins.
Much to the surprise of the watching contestants, they weren’t exactly in a rush to try it for themselves!
After demonstrating his power to the contestants, the Muay Thai legend explained to them just how he is able to do it.
“The whole point of it really is to condition the mind to take the pain into another universe, you can condition it to not feel at that moment, the pain is only for a few seconds”.
Menor was the WKA Super Elite Class World Champion 1994-1997, WMTF Amateur Muay Thai Champion 1997 and the K-U Super Elite Class World Champion 1999, so it’s fair to say he knows what he is talking about!

Want shins as strong as Mel’s? Have a look at these conditioning techniques that he and many other professionals use in preparation for fights.
Here a few tips that you can use whilst training:
1.Train kicks on a heavy bag: around 100 kicks should begin to strengthen the shins
2.Sparring: Having a partner who can practice blocking your kicks will help stimulate the shins and help the strengthening process.
3.Treatment on the shins- Using Tiger balm and Muay Thai oils helps promote blood circulation and healing round the shin.
4.Have regular intake of Calcium and Vitamin D to help speed up the repairing of the shins
