Amanda Lemos starches Montserrat Conejo at UFC Vegas 31

From the outset of the fight, there was a clear striking talent gap between Lemos and Conejo. Seconds in, the 34-year-old blasted her Mexican opponent with shots that immediately got her attention. However, showing the traditional heart of her countrymen and women, Ruiz kept coming forward and pressuring.

Unfortunately, she kept walking into sniper-like punches from her Brazilian foe. Eventually, she walked into three punches, with the last staggering her badly. Soon after, she was knocked down as flailed around in defense. She was on the mat in a position for more serious damage to be taken, however, the referee mercifully jumped before that could happen and stopped the actiont at 4:28 in the opening round.

The 28-year-old Ruiz was so out of it that she was under the impression the fight was still going on well after it had been ended.

The victory is the fourth straight in the Octagon for “Amandinha” after losing her promotional debut to a tough veteran in Leslie Smith back in 2017. It’s also her eighth knockout victory in 11 professional wins. She is deserving of a ranking at strawweight next week.

For the Invicta FC veteran Ruiz, it is her first setback in the Octagon, as the Kings MMA product moves to 1-1 in the promotion.
