Trash talk stops when kid can’t breathe!

Kevin Swords vs Suga Demitrus Williams in this backyard mma fight.

Both fighters weighed in around the 112-115 mark. Good back and forth action with some trash talking and actual MMA techniques!

Suga Demitrus Williams: “Now since I’m older, I look back at this and realized I deserved this loss. Geez, I was so small too!”

We think you did fine, Demitrus. A great learning experience for both of you. Just hope you’re still training and doing well!

Will either of these guys make it to the UFC? I guess we’ll just have to see!

There are many debates on the Internet about backyard fights. Lots of people enjoy watching them, and others think it disrespects martial artists around the world.

Here are some of them:

It seems like more and more kids these days love ‘MMA’ shows so much that they’re actually holding their own fights in their backyards, basements, etc. Personally, I highly disapprove of this kind of ridiculous behavior.
My reasons:
1. It’s stupid and immature.
2. It’s the equivalent of Star Wars fans going out and having a light saber fight.
3. It’s illegal.
4. It gives a terrible name to and dishonors real martial artists.

I just want to know everyone’s views on the subject.

Update: Regardless of whether or not they are real martial artists, when you see a news report about kids having ‘MMA’ fights in their backyards it gives a bad name to real martial artists. Even if they’ve never taken an ‘MMA’ lesson in their life, people will assume they are having ‘MMA’ fights. They will associate ‘MMA’ with real martial arts, thereby giving them a bad name.

Well, there’s some that I think are okay. For instance, if it’s controlled and not violent (like no face etc) then I honestly don’t see much of a difference of that and wrestling in someone’s backyard (I did that as a kid and loved it, it never went too far and it was just plain competition fun).

A real guy who wrestled would show us some stuff and beat us all.. there was nothing wrong with that kind and I don’t see the difference if a martial artist goes in a backyard with his friends and shows them some stuff and spars for fun.

If it is for “settling scores” and whatnot then NO WAY. If it is in an uncontrolled environment then no. The majority of these backyard fights are for being the top dog, they aren’t about fun and games, they are about having a chance to go at a guy without getting the full deal of a fight.

I think that THAT kind certainly is immature as it is no different than street fighting, and it also gives a bad name to martial arts.

As to the legal side, should it be illegal for some teens to wrestle together in their backyard? Where should the line be drawn? See, I think that if it isn’t aggressive and it’s controlled.. there’s really not much of a problem with it.

Pads and fun sparring were at one time just another sport, which is what MMA is.. I don’t have a problem with kids doing it like that (that’d be the same as kids going out and playing football as a fan, maybe they aren’t good but it is fun). [source : yahoo.com]
