Lenin Ubiera-Cruz, manager of the ‘Family Foods Supermarket’ in Orlando, Florida, was talking to a local news crew from WTFV about a spate of thefts at his store when he suddenly caught sight of one of the men responsible.
The timing couldn’t have been better and Ubiera-Cruz had no intention of letting the perpetrator, later identified as Lawrence Ratcliff, get away.

“Just give me one second, a distracted Ubiera-Cruz said mid-interview as he looked off into the distance with a look of amazement on his face. This is the guy that stole the other day.
He then fearlessly ran off in pursuit of the criminal and by the time the camera crew caught up with him, the store manager was dragging Ratcliff back out of his store.
When the thief tried to break free, Ubiera-Cruz easily took him down. Showing his knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he then calmly took Ratcliff’s back, put his hooks in and wrapped him in a rear-naked choke.
The store manager, along with some fellow employees, then continued to detain the man until police arrived.
The store manager was then able to show the officers footage of Ratcliff on CCTV just days earlier stealing from the store on two separate occasions, taking meat, beer, beans and eggs which he’d somehow managed to put down his pants.
Police arrested Ratcliff, who was charged with petty theft, fined $273 and sentenced to five days in jail after pleading ‘no contest’.
Remarkably, this was the third time that Ubiera-Cruz had detained a thief at his store.
The first time was briefly captured on security footage, with Ubiera-Cruz seen detaining a man using a full-nelson hold.

The second incident was more frightening, with another thief turning violent as tried to escape, punching another employee and then brandishing a knife, which he used to cut Ubiera-Cruz on the arm.
Luckily the wound was superficial and Ubiera-Cruz was still able to restrain the assailant until the police arrived on that occasion as well.
No matter what, we want to catch them, Ubiera-Cruz vowed after his latest crime-fighting heroics. No matter what.
