CCTV footage from a McDonald’s restaurant in Las Vegas shows a security guard unexpectedly launch a devastating attack on three patrons. The footage opens with the guard speaking with three men; an annoyed man appears to be in the conversation as well. From the footage available, shot on February 9, 2020, it is difficult to tell what sparked the guard to start punching.

The guard strike first, but this on its own does not necessarily indicate his behavior was illegal. Under the self-defense laws in most states, there are potential grounds to hit back first, known as a Preventive Strike. For example, if someone says, “I am going to cut you,” and reaches for what you believe to be a knife, you can hit back first. That said, again, what precipitated this confrontation is unknown. It is pure conjecture, but the men appear to have a case of Modelo on them, and it’s possible that drinking alcohol on the premises sparked the altercation.

What Happened

The guard is speaking with three men, one in green, one in red, and one in a porkpie hat. The guard hitches up his pants, and it’s on. Red, who has just put a french fry in his mouth, is hit with a left, right, left combo and drops to the ground. The guard’s elevated elbows and looping shots for not indicate a trained boxer. While he could have an MMA background, where punching styles vary more, he could just be a guy with naturally heavy hands. Please note: when a guy with security is hitching up his pants, don’t put a french fry in your mouth.

The guard resets in under a second, and throws a left-right-left-right, two of which land, and Porkpie is out; hat falls off too. Meanwhile, green momentarily checks on red, who has fallen across a table, and starts throwing. The guard grabs green and drives him backward. Green trips over Porkpie’s leg, and, propelled by the forward movement of the guard, falls hard into the ground, striking the back of his head.

There is a reason there are mats in a fight gym. There is a reason fighting on the street is most unwise. Hitting your head on concrete can be fatal. Green is entirely unmoving, and lies next to Porkpie, stacked like cordwood.

Red exits stage right, stumbling, and appears to eat a few more shots off camera. Porkpie stumbled to his feet, but green remains motionless.

Elapsed time is just 27 seconds. A lot can happen in 27 seconds. And throughout all, an elderly man in blue can be seen enjoying his sandwich.
