In this staged video, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt demonstrates how to defend yourself against a robber and subdue him with some simple technique.

In the United States, somebody gets robbed every ninety seconds. The video, filmed in Chicago, IL starts with a common scenario. A man walking down the street enters an empty parking facility. A robber watches the man from a window to make sure he is alone and waits on the top of the elevator. As the victim exits the elevator, the robber who was lying in wait, leaps out and attacks. Although there are no weapons involved, the victim is untrained in the situation and is forced to hand over his wallet and phone.

Next, the scenario changes as another man enters the lobby and confronts the robber. This man however is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitus black belt. The robber becomes aggressive and attack the black belt who utilizes his skill set to avoid a strike and fight the robber to the ground.

Being trained in jiu-jitsu, the man has a firm grasp of ground control and can easily control the robber and sub due him without striking the man.

He easily mounts the man and then secures a position called ‘Total Hold Down’ which allows him to keep the robber controlled while he assesses his surroundings.

Reminding everyone that this is a staged scenario, the jiu-jitsu black belt then takes the robber’s phone and takes a selfie of them both. This would not be recommended in a real-life scenario.

In a case where the robber continues to be aggressive, the jiu-jitsu trained fighter can use a submission hold, such as a rear naked choke, to render the person unconscious. At this point, it would be safe to let the attacker go and either leave the scene or call law enforcement.
