They say you are what you eat…well, I don’t remember eating a f#$king legend…this must be the response of nearby villagers when asked where one must travel to locate the best and safest steakhouse in town. Toronto restaurant owner, Arron Barberian certainly owns the status of badass restauranteur after successfully fending off a would be mugger on a routine day in beautiful Toronto, Canada.

Arron Barberian, also known as Arron The Barbarian by local villagers, blacksmiths, and elementary school children, is the owner of Barberian’s Steak House, founded in 1959.

The surveillance footage, posted on YouTube in December of 2014, shows Arron carrying a money drawer as the mugger approaches him from behind, striking with precision timing into the dark and hidden entry.

In what appears to be a refined muscle memory, Arron shows himself to be no shrinking violet, sprawling back with an escape move and moving the encounter into the visible city sidewalk. It is there that the mugger likely realized that he had chosen the wrong vintage to pair with the ass-beating coming his way. Aaron quickly clinches the back of the mugger’s head, attempts a front kick and puts the mugger in retreat mode. Turning away from the unexpected opponent, the mugger seems to signaling he no longer wishes to continue in the fight. However, it is clear that Aaron has absolutely no time for any kind of mercy. Without a referee in the vicinity or official sanctioning of the bout, the melee continues.

Arron is then joined a member of his staff in what now transforms into a lumberjack match. The mugger retreats to the center of the street as Arron and the loyal staffer execute two additional drag and drop take downs, giving personified indignity to “kicking the can down the road.”

It is here that the fight leaves the range of visible surveillance. In what could be a prolonged period of dead air, we are fortunate enough to witness both the sad depths of human frailty as a desperate woman steals Mr. Barberian’s phone from the street, and also the glimmer of human goodness as a local villager retrieves and returns the money from the drawer.

The legend of Arron The Barbarian continues to grow each year as steakhouse patrons and school teachers retell the tale. While some of the heroic details have been embellished to the level of medieval lore, you need only notice the fearlessness in “The Barbarian’s” eyes as he strolls Dundas Square in the early evening. Celebrities like Mick Jagger, Denzel Washington, Eminem, and numerous Prime Ministers have been spotted enjoying steak and wine at his establishment, discussing the Riddle of Steel and their days of high adventure.
