The New York Police Department has released footage of a woman fighting off a rapist, and are seeking help from the public in identifying the suspect.

Police describe the assailant as being a white male, 5’11, 180 lbs., approximately 20-30 years old, with curly black hair. He is seen on the video wearing a blue t-shirt and pants.

The video was captured by surveillance camera on Sunday, June 26, at approximately 3:50 a.m., in front of 586 16th Street near Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York.

Police say the victim, 34, was walking on 16th Street when the suspect approached her from behind. He grabbed her, lifted up her dress, and pulled at her underwear. The man then knocked the victim to the ground and struck her numerous times with full power, attempting to sexually assault her.

Rapists are terrorists – they use terror for depraved ends.

However, rather than cower in fear, this woman fought back. She did not appear to use any notable technique. There is no MMA or Krav maga, no wrestling or BJJ. But she was not cowed, she was fierce.

And that fighting spirit made all the difference.

At the close of the tape, the attacker can be seen fleeing from the scene.

In a further testament to her strength, the victim declined medical attention.

This was one of several incidents have taken place in the vicinity of Prospect Park recently over the last few months, including an attempted rape on 2nd Street on May 23, and a jogger who successfully fought off an attacker on April 20. Anyone with information please call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.577.8477 (English) or en Espanol 1.888.577.4782. Please share to celebrate the power of women fighting back.
