After catching a burglar in house on security footage, a man installed new security measures to alert him of movement on the perimeter of his property and caught the burglar in action. He then confronted the man and and a fight erupted. The man was able to subdue the burglar until authorities arrived.

The man, Andrew Meyers, detailed the entire incident himself online:

The following is what takes place when a creeper attempts a home invasion on a veteran of the 82nd Airborne. This guy was in my house earlier this week in the middle of the night on Veteran’s Day. My neighbor saw him and when we checked the security cameras sure enough, there he was. He got away with it once, but since then I have installed some security improvements to alert me to movement in my fence line. He became aware of some things in my basement of value and only left when he heard movement, but I could tell he was planning to return and steal the gear he found in my basement.

That night somehow my door was unlocked he actually made it inside -to shoot up I’m guessing- all night where it is warm I presume. Then, he left in the morning. In the area of my home he was in I keep some very expensive camera gear for my business. I had a feeling that now that this guy knew that stuff was down there that he would be back. I had a plan, that didn’t work because I expected him to head back along the trail – instead he went around the other side of my house.

….Now I am thinking: “he just made his way around my house to attempt to gain entry upstairs (where my GF and dog are), WTF??”. – Once I told him he wasn’t coming in, and wasn’t leaving till he talked to the police (due to the previous break-in) he tried to pull off a huge haymaker on the porch. He ate an uppercut for his troubles, (off camera) but I realized I wanted anything that happened to be on camera so I drug him down the stairs. The rest can be seen on camera…

I own several guns that I could have used. Everyone that owns a home should own a gun. However, discretion is the difference between a responsible gun owner and a criminal. To kill someone you should have moral AND legal standing. Waiting for someone to set foot inside your house to murder them is not OK in my opinion. I took some risk, to save this idiot’s life rather than take it.

Kudos to the Seattle police as they were here right away and treated everyone involved with what seemed like “protection” and “service” – not a huge fan of cops but these guys were GREAT! The police report states: “assailant attempted an assault to break free. He lost.”

Mr. Myers also spoke to local news KIRO TV after the incident to give more details about the entire incident:

When Andrew Myers spotted the would-be burglar on his surveillance cameras Saturday night, he confronted him at his own front door.

I said ‘what’s up?’ And he said ‘I live here,’ and I said ‘definitely do not live here,’ and he said ‘who are you?’ And I said ‘I definitely do live here buddy,’ Myers told KIRO 7, as he reenacted the conversation on his front porch.

Myers said the man’s poorly timed punch – He takes a big step backwards and throws a big haymaker that’s under the camera – was his cue to get the rest of the brawl on camera, including when police officers made their arrest.

I don’t think that’s even from him, Myers said, showing KIRO 7 his scraped-up knuckles. I actually think I missed and hit the sidewalk once, but casualties of war I guess.
