World Series of Fighting 22: Palhares vs. Shields

Saturday, August 1, 2015

Las Vegas, Nevada

“If you are a fan of grappling the most interesting fight of the night is Rousimar Palhares vs Jake Shields for the welterweight title in WSOF,” wrote Mike Cies before the fight. “With 63 pro fights between them neither guy has ever been submitted in MMA.”

That is no longer true.

Palhares held the winning sub past the tap, something that got him thrown out of the UFCm and incensed competitors at ADCC. However, he is not required to end the sub when the opponent taps. He is required to stop when the ref stops him, which happened moments after Shields’ tap. The Nevada Athletic Commision runs one of the tightest shops in the world, and will doubtless take action as warranted.
