Tyron Woodley and Andre Galvao have been slated to face off in a featured welterweight bout at Strikeforce Diaz vs. Noons 2 on Oct. 9 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
Galvao announced the matchup, whose winner will buoy into the promotion’s 170-pound title picture, on his Twitter account on Monday. Strikeforce officials said an official announcement is forthcoming.
The undefeated Woodley, who hasn’t seen action since May when he took a split decision over Team Quest’s Nathan Coy at Strikeforce Challengers 8, was a two-time collegiate All-American wrestler at the University of Missouri.
A three-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships medalist, Galvao, who turns 28 next week, earned a hard-fought third-round technical knockout against Jorge Patino at a Strikeforce event in Houston in late August.
