New UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley understands that the window at the top of the sport doesn’t stay open forever. It is an opportunity, not a career. And he aim to maximize that opportunity.

Before he even left the cage he said he wanted to fight either Nick Diaz or division G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre. Diaz said make me an offer I can’t refuse, but the UFC may have a planned fight with Lawler for Nick. GSP said yes, so that has been Woodley’s focus.

The opening line for the potential fight was GSP (-150) vs. Woodley (+120).

Unlike a spread on a football game where one team is getting a certain amount of points (ex. Saints +7), in MMA fights the line on the game is called a money line.
GSP (-150)
Woodley (+120).

In this fight, GSP would be the favorite, meaning if you bet $150 on him and he wins, you would profit $100. If he were to lose though, you would lose the full $150. If you were to bet on Woodley at +120, if you bet $100 on him and he wins the fight, you will profit $120. If he were to lose the fight, you would lose your original $100 bet.

Depending on how people are betting on the fights the odds will shift from the moment they open, right up until the night of the fights.

You can not be the UFC champion and you cannot claim to be the best in the world if you know that the best welterweight in the history of our sport is still wanting the fight, said Woodley, during a recent appearance on MMAjunkie Radio. And if you have the chance to fight him, not just for economic reasons, but just the nature of legacy and really prove you are the best, that’s the No. 1 choice in my mind right now.
