Within moments of defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 on July 30, new middleweight champion Tyron Woodley called for money fights with Nick Diaz or GSP. He ended up being matched with #1 contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who had stayed active on social media calling for the title challenge, and criticizing the champ’s calls for a fight with GSP or Diaz.
On September 20, Woodley appeared on The Anik and Florian Podcast and said the fight with Thompson was actually agreed upon many weeks ago, and that the protests were a charade.
Thompson’s coach and father Ray then tweeted that rather than six weeks beforehand, they had known only for days, and a bitter Twitter quarrel broke out.

In an interview with Jonathan Shrager for The UnderGround, Ray was asked to comment on the crowd reaction to Woodley at the UFC 205 press conference.
“The reason he was booed was because Tyron blatantly turned down the ‘call out’ by the #1 contender (Wonderboy) when Wonderboy was doing commentary for Fox Sports 1 the night Tyron won the belt,” responded Ray. “Tyron said that Stephen could go fight Robbie Lawler and that he (Tyron) is going to go fight fighters with bigger names like GSP or Nick Diaz who would make for bigger ‘money fights.’ Guys that haven’t fought for some time.
“What was really bad about that situation was that when Tyron was the #1 contender we whined about not getting his title shot. The fans SLAMMED him on social media about that!! They were relentless!! He also started calling Stephen names like Wonderwoman, etc and told some lies about Stephen so that’s when I went on social media and spanked him.
“I never saw where he responded to me after I did that. I tweeted to him that he, the UFC welterweight champion just got SKOOLED by a 61-year-old grandpa on SM. He never responded but the fans did and they backed me up 100% afterward. Well maybe not 100%, Tyron did have a couple supporters!”
Ray noted in closing that he is now known as Wonderdad by the Wonderfans.
