Renzo Gracie, appeared on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour last month, and declared that he wants to fight in the UFC again
Believe it, there’s nothing that I want to do more than to be back in the cage, to be back fighting,” said Gracie as transcribed by Middleeasy. “I just love doing that. Life has been pushing me everywhere but in that direction, but now I’m getting so tired and frustrated with everything else that I’m going to just bury myself into a mat and train the whole day, and do what I love, which is training and fighting… I’m looking to be in top shape in three or four months from now, and from there I’ll set up a date.
At the UFC 168 media day last Sunday, UFC president Dana White questioned why Renzo would want to return at age 46.
“I have to ask Renzo Gracie why,” said White as transcribed by MMAFighting. “Renzo, you’ve been around forever, you’ve accomplished so many things. You have the respect of the entire combat world in every country. I just don’t know why he wants to come back at his age and fight again.”
When asked by MMAFighting why he wants to fight again, Renzo offered a quote from Nietzche – “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
As only he can, Renzo talked about both a 19th century German philosopher, and his nut sack.
“For having nothing to prove nor nothing to gain,” said Gracie “To fight for what it is without reason, without greed, just for the passion to step once again in the arena and be an inspiration for a future generation of great fighters. To prove that age is only a handicap for the soft ones.
“And above all, because I love it.”
“My man, I’m fighting. It doesn’t matter where. Even for free.
“Last time I checked I didn’t have wrinkles. Not even on my nut sack.”
