It was revealed earlier tonight that Jon Jones was being sought for questioning regarding an auto-accident in Albuquerque. Details are still surfacing, but Kevin Iole did reveal that UFC President Dana White was aware of the incident, but no decision about Jones’ title defense has been made as he is still gathering the facts:
UFC president Dana White said he was still trying to gather facts and that no decision has yet been made regarding Jones’ status for UFC 187. Jones is slated to defend his title against Anthony Johnson on May 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what will be one of the UFC’s biggest fights of the year.
Neither Jones manager Malki Kawa or attorney Ofir Ventura responded to messages seeking comment.
Update: The UFC released a statement regarding the Jones incident, echoing the sentiments Kevin Iole shared from Dana White:
“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”
