White: Whittaker next for St-Pierre

On Saturday night welterweight G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre returned to the Octagon after four years, and became only the fourth fighter to win belts in two divisions. That merited congratulations from Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The win generated discussion about whether GSP is the UFC G.O.A.T., but the main question is who’s next? The money fight is Conor McGregor, at 170, where Notorious has fought twice already. The legit fight is Conor McGregor can defend his belt for the first time, and GSP can defend his new middleweight belt vs. interim champion Robert Whittaker.
Given that the UFC has to realize a return on a $4 billion investment, the former is the obvious choice. However, at the UFC 217 post fight press conference, UFC president Dana White said a unification fight with Bobby Knuckles is next.

The who and what is set firmly, but the when and where remain up in the air.
I don’t even know what’s going on with GSP, said White. He was transported to the hospital. He’s got to get stitches on his nose. You know, if he doesn’t take Bisping down and keeps it standing, he comes out of this fight with almost no damage. Bisping did some serious work from his back – split his nose open, had blood all over his face.
He took some big shots from the top position. If he didn’t do that, he probably would have come out pretty much unscathed. But he’s got to go to the hospital right now. We’ll see how he is, I don’t know what the status is with him.
