White: Weidman on a ‘Jon Jones-type run’

Dana White recently stated that Chris Weidman’s run is similar to that made of former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, prior to his current problems.

Chris Weidman is the current undisputed UFC middleweight champion. Weidman is a perfect 13-0 in his professional career including nine bouts in the UFC. He won and has defended his title three times. Looking at those numbers, UFC President Dana White recently stated that Weidman’s run is similar to that made by former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at his peak.

White said that the streak Weidman is on is very comparable to another former UFC champion.

He’s on a Jon Jones-type run right now in the 185-pound division, White said. The thing is with Jon Jones is that he went four years taking out all the best 205-pounders in the world. Weidman is beating straight killers right now.

For comparison, Jon Jones entered the UFC with six wins and one mismanaged no-contest before winning the UFC light heavyweight title. Jones defended his title eight times before it was recently stripped for legal issues.
